Following the completion of my History degree at the University of Manchester and a History PGCE at Leeds Trinity University I became a History and Politics teacher at Abbey Grange Academy. As a result of my knowledge and expertise within the classroom I was appointed to the role of Leader of Learning; within this role I delivered teaching and learning sessions focusing on maximising progress with an emphasis on differentiation for lower ability students and acted as a point of expertise in regards to marking and ‘outstanding’ teaching. My work within the Politics department led to my appointment as the Subject Leader for Politics. The profile of the department was enhanced by a successful school election with multiple events to capture the interest of the students leading to high voter turnout. To support the development of the growing sixth form at Abbey Grange I launched the Extended Project Qualification to offer further opportunities for students, I now manage this qualification at both Abbey Grange and Lightcliffe Academy. Within the role of Lead Practitioner for Post 16 I am aiming to secure the ongoing development of teaching and learning to support the progress of all students. In addition to my work for the Abbey Multi Academy Trust I am in position as a Learning and Teaching Specialist for the Leeds Learning Partnership allowing me to keep abreast of priorities within education for the Leeds area. Additionally, I am able to support History Subject Leaders from across the Leeds area through the Subject Leaders Forum. My understanding of pedagogy and professional practice is being enhanced through the completion of a Masters degree in Education with Teacher Enquiry. Outside of school I support the local community through high profile charity events.
